Actability are holding three days of drama and music for learning disabled people on the 16th 17th and 18th of August at the Hume Theatre at St Marys Catholic School Windhil Bishops Stortford. Actability exists to provide inclusive opportunities for people with and without disability to use their creativity to explore and celebrate difference through theatre

Xplore is a weekly open workshop for learning disabled people at the company’s artistic base at St Mary’s Catholic School in Bishops Stortford.

 Hollytrees . On a weekly basis the company goes into Hollytrees primary school in Brentwood and works with a group of year 5 children. This unique workshop is delivered in partnership with Frontline, an organisation providing opportunities and supported employment in the Brentwood area.

 St Elizabeths. Actability work in partnership with St Elizabeths College to run two weekly social skills drama workshops for learners from the college . Actability also work with learners from the College as part of a work experience programme which focuses on events management and administration rather than performance.

Actability was formed in 2005 and began life as weekly workshop for six people who created the first performance piece by the group, a short dance/movement piece called Sail Away based on a Noel Coward song as performed by the Pet Shop Boys. Following this the company devised an original take on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet which toured schools and colleges and day centres in Herts, Essex and Cambridge with great success. The next production was Behind the Mask which looked at the controversial subject of relationships between learning disabled people using the story of Cinderella. Once again this toured widely During the same period Actability worked with St Elizabeths Centre to create a version of Macbeth and with People First East Herts and Herts Police on a new piece about personal safety for learning disabled people entitled Nursery Crimes.

We are delighted to inform about our first touring participatory experience for children RUMBLING TUMMY in Eastern Region. With an integrated cast of disabled and non disabled performers featuring stories from Poland ,China, Africa and Native American. This is a culturally diverse slice of inclusive theatre including poetry, live music, dance, animation and puppetry.
